Nine out of ten visitors to Expo.02 rate the national exhibition highly and will recommend it to their friends, the first opinion survey has found.

Rainer Müller, Expo.02’s marketing director, said on Friday the poll findings were “a dream result” for the organisers of the cultural event, which opened to the public last week.

The survey of 1,587 visitors found 91 percent were positive about the experience, with 90 percent saying they would recommend it. Eighty-eight percent said they planned to visit the exhibition again.

In the first nine days, 454,000 people visited the four floating platforms - or “arteplages” -that make up the exhibition site. The best day for numbers was the Sunday of the Whitsun holiday, when 80,000 people attended.

Helped by the weather

“These excellent figures reflect the attractiveness of the arteplages, as well as the general atmosphere,” Müller said, adding that the good weather in the opening days of the event had contributed to the high satisfaction rating.

The most popular of the four sites was Biel, Müller said, with 35 percent of visitors, followed by Neuchâtel with 31 percent. Yverdon and Murten pulled in 17 percent each.

The vast majority of visitors, 66 per cent, came from German-speaking areas, with 27 per cent from French-speaking Switzerland and two per cent from the Italian language region. Five per cent of visitors came from abroad.

The Expo.02 organisers also expressed satisfaction with foreign media coverage of the exhibition.
