Artificial intelligence
Ada - the intelligent space Would it be possible for a room to hear, see and feel? Could it develop its own emotions? Could it think, or even remember things? Could it express itself, talk to its visitors, send them signals? An important path of modern research leads into areas of artificial intelligence which focus on the functions and potential of the human nervous system. This is how Ada was born – first in the laboratory and then in Neuchâtel.

Waterworld
Aua extrema Aua extrema means “extreme water” in Romansh, the Latin-based language spoken in parts of Eastern Switzerland. Everything in this exhibition revolves around water, the element which ensures life and survival on our planet and which is increasingly sought after around the globe. But East Switzerland, whose cantons are sponsoring Aua extrema, has the largest water reserves in the whole of a country which already enjoys an abundance of water. So it is only fitting that you should get your feet wet at this exhibition – have fun!

Face to face with disaster
BEAUFORT 12 The damage caused by natural disasters is increasing all over the world. In Switzerland, too, they can be devastating, and the widespread support of the population is necessary to alleviate at least the material consequences. BEAUFORT 12 brings such dramatic events to life. What we normally perceive from afar is suddenly happening close up – in the form of a production that is extremely realistic.

Meet your future
Biopolis Biopolis is the city of the future, where the findings of modern biological research have now become reality. Visitors can discover new mysteries of life, learning which products will be available tomorrow thanks to the latest biological research and how the inhabitants of Biopolis use these products. The exhibition shows us today what may be reality tomorrow.

Expo glimpses the future of science Imagine a world where diseases are cured by stem cells and miniature robots clean out blood vessels and arteries.

How do you make light, heat and movement out of water
Magie de l'énergie Energy is produced and is consumed. It obeys the laws of nature. One can say that it is part of these laws – the driving force behind technological progress and the raw material of our economic system. But this does not tell us what energy really is. How do you make light, heat and movement out of water? The flow of energy is as powerful as it is invisible. What we actually see are the results of its constant transformations.

Eating and drinking between organics and design
Manna Manna looks like a gigantic jelly. This childhood fantasy promises something very close to paradise, as it toys with the pleasure we get from eating and drinking. However, that innocent pleasure is no longer what it seems. Manna is therefore about decisions that can dampen or enhance our enjoyment; it is a question of finding the golden mean between nature and artifice.

The inherent connections of sustainable development
Palais de l'Equilibre Housed in a wooden sphere towering 27 metres (89 ft) above the ground, Palais de l’Equilibre sets out to acquaint visitors with the concept of sustainable development. The future of the human race depends on our ability to establish and maintain a balance between a caring and responsible society, an efficient economy and an intact environment.

Visitors confront Earth’s future at Expo Disaster scenarios projected on a giant globe are the first stop on a visit to the Swiss government’s Neuchâtel pavilion at the national exhibition.

Rediscover Pinocchio in the 21st century
Piazza Pinocchio It was not just a mechanical wooden puppet that was born in the workshop of carpenter Gepetto in the Tuscan village of Collodi that day in 1881, but a very special hero – Pinocchio. Expo.02 has dedicated a piazza to this hero, his fame and his guile. Sited on a wooden hill above the robotics exhibition, it is a magical story spot for children and their parents. Monument to a childhood hero.

Man or machine?
Robotics Just how smart is artificial intelligence? What are robots really capable of – now and in the future? Will they be like us one day, able to think, perhaps even have feelings? Will they be a danger to us? Will they work with us? Will we live alongside them?
